About the Role

Life Line Housing is seeking a dependable and hardworking Custodian to help keep our facilities clean, safe, and welcoming for residents, staff, and visitors. This position plays an important role in creating an environment that reflects excellence, dignity, and care — ensuring that every person who walks through our doors feels at home.

The Custodian will be responsible for daily cleaning, sanitation, and upkeep of all common areas, including restrooms, offices, and hallways. Duties include sweeping, mopping, dusting, restocking supplies, and reporting any maintenance or safety concerns. The ideal candidate will be reliable, detail-oriented, and take pride in maintaining a clean, comfortable space that supports Life Line Housing’s mission of hope and restoration.

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, along with experience in custodial work. Above all, the custodian should demonstrate a servant’s heart, integrity, and a strong commitment to the values and purpose of Life Line Housing.

Requirements

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred (no formal education required).

  • 1–2 years of experience in janitorial, custodial, or facility maintenance work preferred.

  • Prior experience in residential, nonprofit, or community housing environments is a plus.

Knowledge Areas
  • Building and Facility Cleaning – Knowledge of proper cleaning methods, sanitation practices, and the use of cleaning chemicals safely.

  • Public Safety and Security – Understanding of procedures to maintain a safe, hazard-free environment for residents and staff.

  • Customer and Personal Service – Ability to interact with residents and staff respectfully while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

  • Mechanical and Equipment Use – Basic knowledge of operating vacuums, buffers, mops, and cleaning machinery.

Skills
  • Active Listening & Communication – Ability to take direction, ask clarifying questions, and communicate clearly with supervisors and residents.

  • Time Management – Effectively prioritizes tasks to maintain cleanliness throughout all areas.

  • Attention to Detail – Maintains high standards of cleanliness and order in all areas of the facility.

  • Monitoring – Checks supplies and reports maintenance or safety issues promptly.

  • Coordination – Works effectively with maintenance and staff teams to support facility needs.

Abilities
  • Manual Dexterity & Physical Stamina – Capable of standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying cleaning supplies or equipment.

  • Problem Sensitivity – Recognizes potential safety or sanitation concerns and responds quickly.

  • Near Vision – Able to see details while cleaning, inspecting, or restocking areas.

Other Requirements
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings as needed.

  • Must pass a background check and follow all Life Line Housing safety and conduct policies.
