Moments in Ministry

There are moments in ministry that remind you exactly why you chose to serve. They are not always the large events or the public celebrations. More often, they are the quiet moments when you have the privilege of walking beside someone as they begin believing in themselves again. That has been my experience with Katrina. Watching her journey has been one of the greatest blessings I have experienced through Life Line Housing. Every accomplishment she reaches reminds me that transformation does not happen overnight. It happens one decision, one lesson, one prayer, and one step at a time.

When Katrina first began working toward her GED, the finish line seemed far away. Like many people, she carried doubts about her own abilities. Education can be intimidating after years away from a classroom. Fear of failure has a way of convincing people that they are not capable of succeeding. It tells them that they have waited too long, that they have missed their opportunity, or that they are simply not smart enough. I have watched Katrina push through those thoughts with determination. She has continued studying even when the material became difficult. She has continued showing up even on days when she felt discouraged. That kind of perseverance is what creates lasting success.

One of the greatest joys of this journey has been watching her confidence grow.

Every study session has become another opportunity for her to discover what she is capable of accomplishing.

Every practice question answered correctly has become another reminder that she can learn, grow, and overcome obstacles. I have watched the excitement on her face when she understands a difficult concept. I have watched the relief that comes from realizing that all of the hard work is paying off. Those moments cannot be measured by a test score alone.

They represent hope returning to someone's life.

The day Katrina passed her GED Social Studies test was an emotional moment for everyone who has been supporting her. A passing score represents much more than knowledge of history or government. It represents discipline. It represents commitment. It represents resilience. It represents countless hours of studying when she could have chosen to quit. Watching her celebrate that accomplishment filled my heart with gratitude because I knew exactly how much work had gone into reaching that goal.

One of my favorite parts of serving through Life Line Housing is that we do not simply celebrate the destination. We get to experience the entire journey with the people we serve. We celebrate every milestone because every milestone matters. Whether it is passing a GED test, completing ten hours of studying, attending recovery meetings consistently, or reaching another personal goal, each accomplishment deserves to be recognized. Progress builds confidence. Confidence inspires perseverance. Perseverance changes lives.

I am incredibly thankful for Christian Women's Job Corps for welcoming Katrina into their GED program and investing in her education. Their willingness to teach, encourage, and support her has made a tremendous difference. Their partnership reminds me that lasting change happens when organizations work together with a common purpose. None of us can meet every need alone, but together we can create opportunities that help people build brighter futures.

Watching Katrina grow has reminded me that people are far more capable than they often believe. Sometimes all someone needs is encouragement, accountability, and a group of people who refuse to give up on them. I have seen Katrina become stronger with every challenge she has overcome. I have seen her confidence increase with every success. I have seen her begin to recognize the gifts and abilities that have been inside her all along.

Katrina still has more goals ahead of her. She still has more tests to complete before earning her GED. Looking at how far she has already come fills me with confidence about where she is going. She has proven that she is willing to work hard. She has proven that she is determined to succeed. She has proven that obstacles do not have the final word over her life.

Katrina, if you read this, I hope you know how proud we are of you. We are proud of the hours you have spent studying when no one else was watching. We are proud of the courage you have shown by continuing when things became difficult. We are proud of your determination to build a better future for yourself. Most of all, we are proud of the woman you are becoming. Your journey has encouraged everyone around you.

Thank you for allowing us to walk beside you during this season of your life.

We cannot wait to celebrate the day you hold your GED in your hands. Until then, we will continue cheering you on every step of the way because we believe in you, we see your potential, and we know that your best days are still ahead.
