Taking the Leap: Why We Finally Created Our Waiting List

There are moments in building a nonprofit when you know what needs to be done... but taking that next step still feels overwhelming.

Today was one of those moments.

On July 23, 2026, Life Line Housing officially launched our Recovery Housing Interest List.

To some people, that may not seem like a big deal. It's just a form on a website.

To me, it represented months of wrestling with fear.

For a long time, I told myself I wasn't ready.

  1. I needed more education.

  2. I needed to learn one more thing.

  3. I needed to finish one more project.

  4. I needed another meeting, another class, another conversation before I could take that next step.

The truth is, I wasn't waiting because I lacked knowledge.

I was waiting because I was afraid.

Somewhere in my mind, I had convinced myself that creating a waiting list meant I had to be ready to house everyone immediately. If someone filled out the form, I felt responsible for having a bed waiting for them.

But that's not what the waiting list is for.

The waiting list isn't a promise that housing is available today.

It's a way to understand tomorrow.

It helps us learn how many people in our community are looking for recovery housing. It helps us identify what services people need most. It gives us real data that can strengthen grant applications and demonstrate to potential partners that the need is real.

Without that information, it's difficult to show funders the impact Life Line Housing can make.

Sometimes, taking the next step doesn't mean you're finished. It simply means you're preparing for what God is building.

I'll admit something else.

Clicking "publish" on that form made me nervous.

What if no one signs up?

What if people aren't interested?

What if all of this work has been for nothing?

Those thoughts crossed my mind.

But then I realized something.

If I never put the form out there because I'm afraid of rejection, I'll never know who needs our help. I'll never be able to show grant funders the demand for recovery housing. I'll never move forward because I'll be standing still, waiting to feel completely ready.

And if there's one thing I've learned over the past year, it's that ministry, and nonprofit work, is rarely built on feeling completely ready.

It's built on taking faithful steps, one at a time.

When God first placed Life Line Housing on my heart, I didn't know everything I know today. Since then, He has opened doors I never expected, connected me with incredible mentors, brought together an amazing board of directors, introduced us to community partners, and taught me lesson after lesson about what it means to build an organization that truly serves people.

Looking back, I can see His fingerprints on every step of this journey.

That doesn't mean I never feel afraid.

It means I don't have to let fear make my decisions.

Today wasn't just about creating a waiting list.

It was about choosing faith over fear.

If you're someone who may need recovery housing in the future, or if you're helping a loved one explore their options, I invite you to complete our Interest Form. It doesn't obligate you, and it doesn't guarantee immediate placement. What it does is help us better understand the needs of our community so we can prepare, grow, and pursue the resources needed to serve more people.

Every person who joins that list helps tell the story that recovery housing is needed in East Texas.

Every response helps us advocate for funding, partnerships, and future housing opportunities.

Most importantly, every name represents a person made in the image of God, a person with hopes, struggles, dreams, and the possibility of a new beginning.

As I clicked "publish" today, I realized this wasn't the finish line.

It was another faithful step.

And if there's one thing God has taught me throughout this journey, it's this:

  1. He doesn't ask us to have every answer before we move forward.

  2. He simply asks us to trust Him enough to take the next step.

Thank you to everyone who has encouraged, prayed for, and believed in Life Line Housing. We are building something bigger than a house. Together, we're building hope, one faithful step at a time.
